Just cast my votes in the Python Software Foundation BoD election. Its awesome to see so many great people on the ballot!

I stopped reading The Expanse after book 3, as it wasn’t clicking with me. I watched the first season of the show and was underwhelmed. After all the outrage at its cancellation and eventual renewal by Amazon, I resumed watching. I am glad I did! Season 3 is much better!

Pork tenderloin in the sous vide circulator for dinner with some fresh herbs and a honey mustard vinaigrette dressing. Now, to figure out some side dishes...

Oh yeah, today is the day my Indie Reader is jam-packed with WWDC goodies. Whee!

Eighteen pounds down. Ten to go. 💪🏻

I'm delighted to see Google taking a leadership position here. Let's hope that their actions match their words. I'm rooting for them to get this right!

SiriKit on iOS 12: Tantaliginzly Close

Great post by Ben Dodson about the SiriKit additions that Apple is bringing to iOS 12. In many ways, Siri has to make a quantum leap ahead to catch its competitors, and the new features in iOS 12 are a huge improvement:

When I dug into the code, I found this new Intents.intentdefinition file with which you can create custom intents complete with paramater binding... This sure looks like the much anticipated ability to write your own Siri code!

There is no question that Siri has made a huge leap forward with Siri in iOS 12, but unfortunately its not quite there yet:

It turns out that isn’t the case. The new custom intents are for “Siri the all-seeing widget assistant” not for “Siri the thing you control with your voice”. These custom intents are designed to be created for very specific use cases and then exposed as shortcuts so that you can access them quickly from your lock screen, add them to a workflow, or activate them with a custom voice command that the user creates. Despite the schema being present and the documentation alluding to voice control, you cannot create your own custom commands such as “Order tomato soup with cheese”.

So close, yet so far! I am very much looking forward to the significant Siri improvements that are present in iOS, but more importantly, its clear that Apple has laid the groundwork in a very novel way for a fully programmable Siri.

The Rocinante seeks a new game plan as they attempt to avoid capture; Melba's true motives are revealed; Naomi is torn between identity and ideal; Anna seeks a way to stay aboard the Thomas Prince.

Just back home from a drive around the coast through the peninsula in the Giulia. Windows down. Sunroof open. Volume up. Views of the ocean, hills, and sand. It doesn't get much better! 🏎💨

Still struggling with Bourdain. I didn’t know the man, but I know his struggle. Too well. I’m motivated to have a plan of action in case my depression ever hits too hard. Also, I’m here for anyone and everyone who needs support.

Checked into Rolling Hills Country Club

Hitting the pool on a beautiful day!

Sitting at a pool on the side of a mountain with a good friend, drinking a margarita, and enjoying a cheeseburger. Life’s good!

iOS 12 beta is unbelievably stable for a first beta with one exception: FaceTime, which is decidedly “beta.”

Headed to beautiful Toronto to speak at @StructureRes infra // STRUCTURE Summit! Looking forward to an engaging trip.

Why in the world is @Delta partnered with WestJet!? Not impressed. Airplane is cramped, with no in flight entertainment. No first class at all. No upgrades for Diamond medallions to “Plus” seats. Oh, and gate agent skipped Zone 1, leaving me trapped behind Zone 2.

Checked into Fran's

Thank God for 24 hour diners! I’m starving.

I’ll be in Portland, OR for the 2018 IndieWeb Summit in a few weeks. If you’re interested in the future of the open web, I’d encourage you to join me. It’s one of my favorite events of the year! https://2018.indieweb.org

Just got off a call with a @Reliam customer advising them on how to make use of @awscloud SageMaker for a machine learning use case. Building out a data lake in S3, AWS Glue to discover the structure, and then SageMaker for ML.

Really enjoyed being on the “Public Cloud: Friend or Foe?” panel at . The opportunity for growth is massive, and embracing public cloud with open arms will be the key to success for @Reliam.

Getting ready to board my five hour flight back home to LA after a lovely week in Toronto. I’m exhausted, and ready for a good Father’s Day weekend!

I’m also genuinely not looking forward to this flight on WestJet. Five hours 😤

Things I am currently hating:

• WestJet
• WestJet in-flight Wi-Fi
• Google Slides
• Google Docs

This is why I generally prefer to produce content locally...

Well, that flight sucked! Look, I have little kids, so I know it’s tough to fly with them. But, if you’re the parent of a projectile vomiting toddler, it’s your job to quarantine and keep them away from other passengers.

Is there an event in sport better than the World Cup? It’s intoxicating! ⚽️ 🥅 🏟

Went to IHOB for breakfast today, and I’ve gotta say, for a burger joint, they’ve got some pretty tasty pancakes. 🥞 🍔

Watching the new season of Queer Eye with my children like a good daddy should. Now, Colette insists that I wear my shirts with a French tuck.

Y’all do realize that is Facebook, right? 🤠🧠

The good news is, could never happen in our universe, thanks to GDPR!

@grant.codes awesome! See you next week 😀

@brentsimmons it’d be awesome to have you at IndieWeb Summit 2018 next week, even if just virtually! Lots of exciting things going on in the reader space, and would love your voice. https://2018.indieweb.org

Tried a modern VR setup today and now I’m ruined. Sigh.

@jackjamieson awesome to see you mentioned Together as a good example of a Microsub reader 😀

As Eddie said, having a great Microsub server built on top of WordPress would be a massive win for the community, as it would greatly reduce the barrier of entry, and encourage the development of more Microsub clients. That said, Yarns is also (currently) mostly a *reader*, so having it be a Microsub client is also a great idea.

I'd say, selfishly, #3, but really what I'd love to see is for you to do *both* a Microsub server and a Microsub client for WordPress!

It has been a crazy few weeks! I am looking forward to heading to Portland on Monday for some much-needed time off, and for IndieWeb Summit 2018.

Short notice three day business trip to Dubai? Sure, why not.

Saturday is diet cheat day! Buffalo chicken sandwich, Parmesan fries, beer, and World Cup soccer.

OMG what a finish by Germany! I was pulling for Sweden, but that goal was a thing of beauty. German precision!

Headed to LAX for our family flight to Portland. IndieWeb Summit and a little R

Just demoed Indiepaper, my read-it-later service for the IndieWeb. Check it out - https://indiepaper.cleverdevil.io

Sad to be missing out on IndieWeb Karaoke, but enjoying a lovely dinner with the fam in beautiful Portland. Worth it 😀

Yeah, I think an action extension for save for later makes perfect sense. The hardest part is that it adds a lot of extra configuration steps in Indigenous. That said, I think it’s likely worth it! So useful!

My wife is thinking about putting a yurt in our back yard for when she starts home schooling the kids next year and I’ve never felt more Californian.

Welp, my kiddo broke the headphone jack off on my trusty Sony MDR-7506 headphones. I’ll attempt a repair, but now I’m in the market for new cans. Debating between Sennheiser HD 599, HD 58X Massdrop, AKG K7XX, and others. Any recommendations?

Checked into Sleepy Hollow

Home sweet home!

Just built a quick Workflow (soon to be Shortcut) to allow me to send articles to Indiepaper pervasively throughout iOS. Rad!

Six years ago, today. My little girl has grown so much, but look at her little face in this photo! ❤️ – https://cleverdevil.io/2012/colette-at-sunset
