Another week of travel, this time to Boston to visit the @MissionCloud east coast crew. LAX ✈️ BOS.
👋🏼 Boston! 🥶
Reflecting on re:Invent after digesting the announcements, and its becoming increasingly clear to me that many should leap right over containers, and adopt functions. Problems to navigate, for sure, but the future seems clear.
While I am definitely sad that Microsoft has decided to exit the HTML rendering engine game, and even more sad that they picked Chromium, I can understand their business reasons. Likely the right move for them.
That said, here's my potentially controversial view on the state of web browsers: a rendering engine monoculture is less of a problem for users than the fact that web browser user experience has completely stagnated.
Someone needs to take a truly fresh approach to web browser UX. Separation of work/personal identities, "project" spaces with collections of windows/tabs, new models for organization beyond tabs (they scale terribly), privacy toggles, more!
If you have a piece of tape covering your laptop webcam, but are still on Facebook, or use Google for search, I have some bad news for you... you've got your priorities wrong! #privacy
Oh hello SFO. 👋🏼
ICYMI, Eddie and I have posted a new episode of Two Dads Talking at https://twodads.fm. We have a theme song now! Listen, subscribe, and share your feedback! 🤟🏻😍🤟🏻
In the latter part of a 23 day stretch where 17 days are travel. #HomeSick
Great update! One thing you should consider is moving to a self-hosted analytics package. I’m using Fathom, and it’s solid. Gives me what I need and respects my privacy and that of others.
Hey, Micro.blog! I want to diversify my (largely white, straight, male) timeline. Help me find new voices that will enrich my perspective with their points of view! Any recommendations?
Thanks for all the recommendations, folks! My Micro.blog timeline is looking more diverse already. 😍👱🏻♀️🧕🏻👲🏻🎉
Micro.blog suggestion for @manton and crew – consider adding emoji tags for discovering women, people of color, etc. to follow!
Someone needs to make the LetsEncrypt of domain names. A new extension (or several) that is totally free and encourages people to own their content.
I suppose I have a different definition of "success." For me, success includes work/life balance, healthy sleep habits, and a greater obsession for my family than for my work.
The latest @atpfm included a discussion about Shortcuts for iOS and why many would love a native, sandboxed terminal environment for iOS. Imagine launching Terminal on iOS, and being able to use Homebrew (or equivalent) to install packages?
I have two extra tickets to Pink Martini at the Disney Concert Hall in Downtown LA for the 7:00 PM New Years Eve show. Anyone interested? They're amazing seats, and you'd be sitting next to some very nice people 😀
Facebook is, was, and always will be a deceitful, untrustworthy, broken business. People are calling for the government to do something, but you don’t have to wait. Users hold the power. Delete. Your. Account.
My website reminded me that we welcomed our dog Winston into our family sixteen years ago today! The old man is still with us.
Drinking egg nog, eating cookies, wrapping presents, and watching Die Hard. It’s Christmas Eve, folks!
Children are celebrating their haul, cheesy Christmas shows on the TV, and I’m in the kitchen rendering some duck fat. 🦆🎄
Just finished serving a delightful Christmas dinner. Roast duck with orange glaze, truffle brie mac and cheese, shaved brussels sprouts with bacon and shallot, and sweet potato casserole. Merry Christmas! 🎄
Super short movie reviews from over the holidays.
Mary Poppins Returns - ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ½
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse - ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ½
Mary Poppins Returns was lovely. Both the leads (Blunt, Miranda) did a fantastic job. There were moments of delight, especially the Royal Doulton Music Hall. But, the music was just good, not great. It falls short of the original.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse on the other hand was damn near perfect. The visuals were stunning, the story was strong and captivating, and the humor was unexpected and so much fun. Perhaps the best superhero movie ever! So great.
Yesterday was one of the wildest days in Miami Hurricanes history. I’m still stunned by the rapid unfolding of events with Mark Richt retiring and Manny Diaz spurning Temple to accept his dream job. It all happened in the span of 10 hours! 🏈
