Will it be possible to set a HomePod as default audio output device for an Apple TV? Might be a good soundbar alternative for my great room.

Yes, probably. Both support AirPlay.

If I have to toggle it on every time I turn on the TV, that’s not gonna work for me. It has to be seamless. Default.

My concern about this is latency. If it adds (say) 30ms that may be a deal-breaker.

Also, nice as that would be, it'd be sad if the only way to use it as such would be w/Apple TV.
If it didn't also work with PS4 I'd still need a (redundant) speaker setup.

@cleverdevil afaik, homepod isn’t (real) stereo, might be very weird. Please try it and let us know :)

I'm concerned about latency as well, but its entirely manageable in software by delaying the video to sync with the audio.

As for working with PS4? I don't personally care :) In my great room, everything goes through a streaming box. (Currently, a Fire TV).

@sirshannon I'm currently relying on the built-in (terrible) speakers in my Vizio TV that I have in the great room. I have to turn it up quite loud to hear dialogue, so I am thinking a HomePod may provide an improvement.

@cleverdevil Sounds like it would be an upgrade, assuming it works.
