@aaronparecki.com I like the idea of a motion detector. Amazon AWS released these inexpensive cameras with onboard ML/AI a few months ago. Maybe I’ll give that a spin. I have the same layout in my living/dining/kitchen, so I’d have to get creative.

well that's an idea... train it to recognize whether there is a person in the kitchen. That seems doable actually!
