Hey, Micro.blog! I want to diversify my (largely white, straight, male) timeline. Help me find new voices that will enrich my perspective with their points of view! Any recommendations?

@cleverdevil Try tuning into @cheri and @annie, if you haven't already.

Though iOS first communities will always trend whiter and richer.
Side effect of thousand dollar phones.
Combine this with being on a cutting edge network of Jekyll blog raised on a kickstarter...
Maybe we should start a give a gift of a domain campaign.

@cleverdevil Yeah, MB does tend to skew that way right now. But it’s diversifying if you know where to look. @cheri and @kimonostereo are cool. There’s also @Vanessa and @herself. @Vasta is great. Plus if you’re really desperate, there’s me. 😬

Hey @cleverdevil I diversified the hashtag list on indieweb.org/education best bloggers of color I know, more importantly smartest thinkers and philosophers I know.
Add people to your feeds, link to them on micro.blog.
As @macgenie says invite folks in as relationships grow.

@cleverdevil Some more not yet mentioned/chiming in who’ve been my Micro Monday recommendations: @kitt @Miraz @Dori @fiona @patrickrhone
It’s obviously easier to tell some of those descriptors than others from what people make available in their profiles and what they write in their posts (and some people may prefer that), but as @garciabuxton says, diversity is improving if you know where to go looking, and hopefully following a few folks will bring exposure to more. I have been trying to offer a diverse list of Micro Monday recommendations as a way to highlight that (though still within the confines of “I find this person’s writings/photos interesting”).

This topic (or something very similar) came up this summer around the time of @manton’s first Q&A on @monday, and it is now possible for Micro.blog subscribers to gift a subscription. Doesn’t solve the “domain name” part, but for just getting people on Micro.blog, it’s there. (I have not heard much talk about this sort of thing since gift subscriptions were announced, though.)

@cleverdevil some lovely recommendations here (not talking about me here, gah). And I have found some great conversational threads here that I think represent “diverse voices” (regardless of ethnic and gender orientation)... I’ve had (and come across) conversations about geologic-inspired art, panspermia, fountain pens, earthquakes, family, children, photography, the environment, jazz on rainy days, running, cooking, books, poetry and so much more. We are a diverse bunch and if we dig just a bit there are beautiful things beneath the surface :)))
