Note
I suppose I have a different definition of "success." For me, success includes work/life balance, healthy sleep habits, and a greater obsession for my family than for my work.

Agree with you, but I think waking early (not 4am) is correlated with success

Probably. But, I definitely don't think there is causation there. I think it has more to do with norms and expectations than anything else.

Maybe it's just people who are highly driven tend to wake up earlier to start their day? And those that are highly driven often tend to be highly successful (by the societal defintion)?

I know plenty of extremely "successful" engineers who wake up at 10 AM and start their day at noon. Mostly, I think schedules are a weird thing to focus on when discussing "success."

Agree with both you guys. Success should be more broadly defined. I try to tell my mentees, only you can define what success looks like for you.

That's a great word for your mentees – own your success definition, and then drive toward that! Don't let anyone else tell you what should make you happy.

@cleverdevil very true, it bothers me to no end seeing workaholism preached as the right way to live. Elon Musk’s tweets is a toilet flush straight from his brain, maybe he is turning orange...
