I wanted to leave Facebook, so I did. I don't really want to leave Twitter, but I'm not sure they want me anymore. Without @Tweetbot, I will not enjoy using Twitter anymore. So, why stay?

I feel the same way about using twitter via @bitlbee. I have no use for the web interface. Again, typical embrace, extend, extinguish behavior once a user base is established. They won't miss us anyway.

I wonder if anyone's every done a (published) case study on dropping your early adopter base to ease mainstreaming a product.
