Still struggling with Bourdain. I didn’t know the man, but I know his struggle. Too well. I’m motivated to have a plan of action in case my depression ever hits too hard. Also, I’m here for anyone and everyone who needs support.

I'm with you. I've been struggling with this one quite a bit. I loved him from afar. Strikes me that my dad died of cancer at roughly his age. Depression is equal to cancer and deserves the same resources and support. And yet, that is not where we are with depression today..

Bourdain had a unique voice. He understood the joy of humanity and culture: food, family, tradition, and shared experience. Losing that voice is difficult to swallow.
Not to mention his amazing #MeToo advocacy and response. An example for men everywhere.

And, yes, depression is an epidemic of proportion with cancer, yet it gets less attention and support.

Agreed. I think that's why it's so hard for so many of us. He was actively appearing to live the *GREATEST LIFE* on *ALL AXES* and yet...

Interestingly, I get puzzled and surprised responses whenever I share with people that I struggle with depression. Many times, those of us who grapple with darkness are so strongly drawn to light that people assume we are always joyful!

Kudos to you for sharing. It's not an acknowledged(existing?) thing in my family, so I had no exposure. Took college in California with its hippy ethos to open me up to how many of my friends struggled. And since then... it's like cancer... super common! #BeThereForYourPeople
