Note
I think there is a real market opportunity for someone to create an alternative remote for the Apple TV. Simple, physical buttons. No number pad. No fiddly touch surface.

Only pig-headed stubbornness has kept Apple from coming up with a new one themselves, at this point.

Agreed, hence the market opportunity! Huge install base to sell into that likely enjoys the overall Apple TV experience, but hates the remote.

Connect an XBox or PlayStation controller. I find it far better than the official remote.

Hard to be worse! I’ll take a look at those on Amazon and see if they fit me :)

@cleverdevil Yes, please. I’ve resorted to using my phone for all of my Apple TVs because I hate that remote so much.
My only complaint is that I can’t control my TV volume with the remote on the phone...

@cleverdevil I long for this - as long as it has the voice control feature. Voice control on the current ATV remote is the only thing that makes it tolerable.

The problem with the Apple TV remote isn’t “too few buttons,” it’s the fiddly touch surface. I want a total replacement :)

@cleverdevil we used the Logitech Harmony remote with the 2nd generation Apple TV. When we upgraded to the 4th generation, our habits didn’t change. It’s like using the old style remote (infrared). Only for games does the new remote see use.
