Note
It was finally time to upgrade my Synology NAS, a four bay DS415+. I just ordered a five bay DS1019+, which is faster, more expandable, and has hardware acceleration for h.264 and HEVC. Anyone want to buy my old unit? It’s great, I have just outgrown it!

@cleverdevil interested. What are you thinking?

@Mattfinlayson I hadn’t really thought about it much yet. I also have a few 2TB drives that I could potentially throw in as well. Once my new one arrives and I finish the swap, I’ll clean it out and get back to you on price :)

@cleverdevil I’m still using a DS413j and just upgraded the 3TB drives to 6TB drives in December.

@Vittorino nice! My DS415+ has four 4TB drives in it now, and is nearly full. This upgrade will only add a single bay, but I plan to add a 10TB drive in the fifth bay and replace one 4TB drive with a 10TB drive. With SHR, that adds a ton of space and gives me a lot more headroom as the 4TB drives fail.

@cleverdevil SHR worked well for me migrating to my new drives. Took less than a day to rebuild after each drive swap. Other than the web interface being slow, I don’t have a reason to replace mine yet. That might change as mine is no longer getting feature updates.

@Vittorino SHR is great. My biggest motivator was moving my Plex Media Server off of the old family iMac, which is dying a painful death at the moment. The existing NAS isn't powerful enough, while the new one has hardware acceleration for h.264/hevc with tons of headroom (something like 4+ concurrent streams). The extra bay also lets me expand immediately using a spare drive I have, and then I can swap out a few drives with larger ones to continue to expand.
