Note
I’m in the market for a battery-powered, Wi-Fi connected programmable sign. I want to attach it to my office door so that I can tell my family (well, mostly my kids) when its OK to enter, and when I need silence. Any ideas?

iPad. All seriousness though what about a whiteboard?

Moddable ESP32 with touch screen. Will run off usb power pack for more than a day.

iPad seems like overkill, but noted. Whiteboard is certainly doable, but I want to be able to do things like automatically setting it to “busy” when I am scheduled for meetings. I’m a nerd, dude. This is as much about geeking out as it is pragmatic ;)

For sure :) How about a WiFi picture frame? Is that even a thing?

In that case, how about a Raspberry Pi and one of those cheap displays you can get for ‘em?

Like a 2 line LCD display that just says GO AWAY 🤣

@cleverdevil No WiFi needed - print out the image below and stick it to your door.

And no - I don’t have children running around the house.

I just saw someone use some sort of arduino kit that had WiFi to turn on/off little LEDs on a handmade sign. 1 LED was “in a meeting”, and another was “headphones on.” Seemed pretty cool. I’ll try to find the tweet

I just saw this one...also using an ESP8266. instructables.com/id/WiFi-Work-F… If you want to do something similar I have a particle core I can out in a box on the stoop for you to pick up. WiFi out of the box with OTA firmware flashing that's dead easy to ping remotely.

@cleverdevil I bought a red LED lightbulb from Amazon and connected it to a WeMo outlet. It’s fun to say “Hey Siri, turn on the red light”

Haha!! Good luck!! In my experience your best bet is to offer incentives for them to not knock on your door during certain times of the day.
