I’m interested in improving the image quality for my video calls. Sadly, no one seems to make a truly high-end webcam. The alternative seems to be mirrorless cameras and HDMI capture devices. Am I missing something?

Seems like there might be suddenly a market for a USB camera with a nice lens.

There are however high end webcams that are used in offices, but they tend to be $2k or more which is not exactly a home user price point.

You can probably do much with lighting.

I think the lighting prob makes more of a difference than camera ... I use the Logitech and have good overhead / indirect light and think my video is too HD 😂

1. Lighting 2. Mirrorless with HDMI capture isn't too hard, but pricey if you're starting from scratch

@cleverdevil haven't tried this - but did read it ... iPhone apps to use your iPhone as a WebCam.

@cleverdevil reminds me of using FireWire cameras as high quality webcams. While the video was only 480p, I wonder if that would still look better than the current high-end webcams 🤔

I would like to reduce the quality of my image. 4k just reminds me how old I have become. 😝

Also, 3. for Zoom, make sure "Enable HD" is on and "Enhance my appearance" is off.

My boss just set up his Sony A7iii as a webcam with software using these tutorials: youtube.com/watch?v=V3GvGJ… youtube.com/watch?v=JXhYgy… (sony software lets him see live feed on his computer, something else lets him create a virtual camera device from any window on screen)

Did you look into lighting? I'm thinking of trying something like this: Webcam Light Stand for Live Stream, Selfie Ring Light with Webcam Mount for Logitech C925e, C922x, C930e,C922,C930,C920,C615,Brio 4K by Amada HOMFURNISHING

Yes, lighting is definitely a consideration. That said, I have pretty good lighting in my office already. I definitely wish someone made a purpose-built prosumer webcam using the same technology in today’s best micro four thirds prosumer cameras. Alas, nothing seems to exist!
