Note
Interestingly enough, The Year of Linux on the Desktop is 2020, because there is no such thing as a desktop app anymore. All you need is a web browser and 32 GB of RAM to be able to run all of your trash web apps. OS doesn't matter.

maybe one day we'll get to thin clients where the backend has TBs of RAM

@cleverdevil Then why not Chromebook? More seriously, I’ve got Mac apps I'm not letting go, like DevonThink.

@ReaderJohn I was mostly saying that in jest. I still love macOS in many ways. Its the ecosystem around it that has degraded into a sea of “good enough” web apps and Electron trash. I wouldn’t switch to Linux or ChromeOS.

@cleverdevil I saw the context after I Replied, but there's no going back on replies here (yet?).
If you were right instead of jesting, I’d still take Linux over Chromebook because Google.

@cleverdevil One of the reasons I left the Linux desktop and moved to macOS, almost zero new native app development for Linux. You might get an Electron wrapper but that's it. I've been way happier with the selection of good native macOS apps.

@mcg its true, but becoming less and less true every year as more apps move to the web and/or Electron wrappers. I am hoping we see a resurgence in native apps, but am not holding my breath...
