Okay, first pass of my son’s first gaming PC is up on PC Part Picker. If you’re inclined, take a look and give me feedback! I haven’t built a PC in years.

@whack I’m not going to lie, when I was showing him cases on YouTube, I made sure to show him this one, as it’s probably the one I would pick for myself! Probably going to run ChimeraOS or Bazzite on it to make it more console-like.

@jonathan Seems solid to me. I’d maybe bump the m2 drive up to 2TB to give you more breathing room. I don’t personally love the brown Noctua coolers but that’s just my taste, and it looks like it won’t be a big deal in that case.

@mpirnat Agree on the brown noctua. I’ll probably get the black or white one instead. If it were mine, I’d be using the white Terra and going for all-white options inside.

@jonathan If he’s planning to do streaming you might want to look at Nvidia; as I understand it they have some video encoding stuff in hardware that AMD doesn’t, which makes it easier to game and stream on a single PC. But if it’s just gaming, then AMD is more bang for the buck.

@mpirnat Yeah, this is a tough one. He almost certainly will want to stream. But, we were going all-AMD so he could run ChimeraOS instead of Windows, and get a Steam Deck like experience with a good Linux desktop mode. I don’t think he cares much about streaming quality, but he has been publishing some on YouTube using a capture device we have (Elgato HD60 S+).

@jonathan I’d spring for the Corsair SF750, but I love a good power supply

@jonathan My daughter is into the vtuber thing (she even creates them herself!) so that’s a game, plus motion tracking via a webcam, realtime rendering the avatar, compositing the video, and pumping it out to the internet all at once.
