Note
Apple's RAM and SSD upgrades are silly. I'm inclined to just get the base model, as my RAM usage is inflated due to enterprise endpoint management doohickeys that are hilariously inefficient, and I can buy a fast and large external thunderbolt SSD for less than 200 bucks. Am I being cheap? Should I pay the Apple tax?

@jonathan it's my plan to do the same thing for a m4 mini build machine, but my desire for an external drive is because I don't want to burn through the internal unreplaceable one

@edolnx Yeah, I am heavily leaning in that direction. I can get a dual NVMe / T4 enclosure for about 200 bucks and two Samsung 980 2TB drives for $240. That's 4 TB of very high speed goodness at a much better price than Apple. M4 cores are so fast I don't think I need anything more than the base, and I have an all-AMD ChimeraOS gaming PC, so don't care about the GPU cores much.
