The Internet Archive is a critical public service, and frankly I think the ephemeral nature of the web is an antipattern from its academic origins. I would like to see the IA publicly funded and guaranteed by as many countries as possible.

Oh, sure, but there's a big difference between "this funding you were hoping for wasn't granted" and "this funding you were told you have, that you have contracts for, that you will definitely be getting, you are now not getting" is a different level.
