Do I think The Matrix is dangerous? No, absolutely not. It is very much a product of its time. A groundbreaking and entertaining film. But, the technique it used to appeal to its audience can absolutely be exploited.

I remember being so drawn in by The Matrix. I felt seen. Yes, Morpheus, I do feel different. I feel misunderstood. Am I special? Am I the ONE?

Looking back, I’m somewhat ashamed of being drawn in. I think of the young boys being tempted by the message of the alt right.

I rewatched The Matrix for the first time in years this weekend thanks to its 20th anniversary re-release in Dolby theaters. I was struck by how badly I wish I could see it again for the first time, but also was shaken by the dangerous message it sends to white, tech-savvy men.

S02E10 "Military All-Stars"

In a Knife or Death first, seven military veterans will use their custom made weapons on a series of punishing challenges built to test both their blades and skills. Whose experience will help propel them to victory? Will the course outmaneuver a Chines Dao? Or will a Falcata prove itself in battle? The final two competitors will advance to face the epic final course – “Dead Run.” Only one moves on to the finale and has a chance to win the $20,000 grand prize and be crowned Knife or Death Champion.
